AMARA is a Cambodian non-profit and non-governmental organization which was registered with the Ministry of Interior on 3rd March 1997. AMARA’s service is to promote all Cambodian people and state actors to fully engage in democratic development process by increasing citizen’s rights and roles to affect governance issues and development activities, and to promote accountable and transparent engagement, democratic governance, and government response for quality public service delivery. AMARA also contribute to women’s empowerment and leadership through capacity building that focuses on leadership roles of women to take up and hold leadership positions at sub-national level.
Vision
Provide opportunities for Commune / Sangkat Councils and local communities to gain a clear understanding and know how to use human rights, children's rights, women's rights, laws related to the daily life of the citizens, gender equity and equality, democracy, leadership, good governance, social accountability and national programs for democratic development at the subnational level to promote gender mainstreaming in politics and public society.
Mission
Strengthen and enhance the quality of women in the leadership and administrative works at the sub-national level, have sufficient capacity and ability to participate in the implementation of national development work effectively and sustainably.
Strengthen the women’s network at the sub-national level to be strong, help solve each other's business problems and promote sustainable local economic development.
Goal of AMARA
The presence of women, men and youth leaders at the sub-national level in term of work entry as equal partnership has been consistently increasing in all development sectors such as political, economic social, cultural, environmental, climate change, rural water and sanitation sectors.
